Only-Child Games

Without siblings to keep them entertained, only children may seek undivided attention from a parent. We’ve rounded up a collection of ideas for you to stay busy and have fun with your only child at home.

Crafts—there are a plethora of fun and creative crafts that will entertain kids for hours. Here are a few ideas:

a.      Printable coloring pages

b.     Play Dough recipe

c.      Puppet making instructions

d.     Pipe cleaner instructions

e.     Bubble recipe

f.      Puffy paint recipe

Hide and Seek—only two people are required for hide and seek. Switch roles each round, and experiment with indoor and outdoor variations.

Pretend Play—there are many scenarios that require only two people. You can try doctor and patient, chef and food critic, painter and model, or make up your own.

Chalk—a bare sidewalk and chalk make for endless possibilities. Active For Life has some great ideas.

Hand Clap Games—try one of these games (like Mary Mack or Double Double) or make up your own!

Balloon Games—entertain your child by simply challenging them to keep a balloon from touching the ground, or try this creative balloon tennis

Charades or Pictionary—have one person act out or draw an animal/situation while the other guesses. Take turns switching roles.

Fort Construction—use pillows, blankets, furniture, and cardboard boxes to construct various forts and buildings.

Obstacle Course—this site offers ideas for activities that can be incorporated into an indoor obstacle course.

Indoor Bowling—line up water bottles at the end up a hall or living room, and take turns using a soft ball (or rolled up socks) to knock them down.

Our BBT curriculum also has many games that are suitable for two players (or can be easily modified). All of the games can be accessed for free on our resources page. After you sign up for the exclusive materials, you’ll be able to download our full curriculum of games. The games currently posted can be played with infants though preschool age.
