Playing at Home During COVID 19
International Play Association of Canada states, “Play is a fundamental necessity for children. We know from research and practice that play nurtures a child’s physical, social, emotional, cognitive and spiritual development. During times of crisis, children benefit from play as a means to explore their emotions as well as to make sense of and cope with environmental anxiety. Through this process they develop resilience and build self-confidence which will help them navigate life’s challenges.”
How will you play today? We want to help provide ideas and simple games that reduce stress and increase joy. Do you remember playing “Musical Freeze” as a child? Using your musical device at home, a computer, phone or CD player, encourage your child(ren) to dance to their favorite songs. Let your child know that when the music stops they will freeze and try strike the same pose you are making. Encourage your child to freeze and pose as quick as possible. If you have several children in your household playing together you can add that the challenge that the last person to freeze is out and continue playing until there is just one dancer left.
Visit HERE for complete game instructions. The most important part is having fun together while you play! Laugh, dance silly and experience the joy of play!
