Benefits of Community Involvement

It’s likely that over the last 18 months we have all missed the ability to connect with those in our community. Although we may not always acknowledge the importance of these connections, they have the ability to impact every area of our lives. Being a part of a community allows us to gather with people of similar experiences and build important relationships. It can also increase mental health and emotional wellbeing as individuals feel welcomed and a part of a community. Several additional benefits of community connectedness include:

·         Opportunities to develop social skills

·         Developing new relationships

·         Having a network of people to reach out to when needed

·         Sense of belonging and increased self-confidence

·         Discovering resources for yourself and your child

This list is only the beginning of the benefits that can be seen when individuals get involved in their community. Children can find this community in several areas such as in school, on the playground and at town or city events.

One way for those in the Lethbridge area to get involved in their community this summer is to attend the free Family Outdoor Play events. These events will be taking place twice a week for 6 weeks and will engage children in a variety of play based activities. Children will also be given activity kits which will allow these fun play experiences to continue at home. All ages are welcome so check out the schedule below and find a time to drop by for some fun outdoor play!
